INTAKE & EXAMINATIONS
During the first consultation, an intake interview takes place where we gather detailed information about your medical history, with particular attention to aspects related to your obesity.
After this interview, your data will be forwarded to Carla Amend, the coordinator of the Weight Care Center. She will be your point of contact. She will register your data in a national registry (legally required since 2010) and schedule a date for the day admission and evaluation interview.
Day Admission
During this day admission, all examinations and consultations will take place.
The medical examinations include:
- Chest X-ray (RX-thorax)
- Abdominal ultrasound
- Lung function test
- Exercise stress test
- Heart ultrasound (echocardiogram)
- Gastroscopy (stomach examination)
The consultations
You will also be seen by:
- A psychologist specialized in nutritional counseling
- A dietitian
- A physiotherapist
- An internist (for a clinical examination)
- The psychologist will assess your relationship with food, whether you suffer from eating disorders, and if there are any underlying psychological issues.
- The dietitian will use various questionnaires to determine your eating behavior profile.
- The physiotherapist will assess your physical activity levels and provide advice on suitable forms of exercise and how to build them up gradually.
- The internist will examine whether there are any underlying causes for your obesity (such as diabetes, thyroid disorders, or adrenal disorders).
Multidisciplinary Team Discussion
The results of all examinations will be discussed in a multidisciplinary team meeting with all members of the team. Together, a decision will be made about the most suitable treatment for you.
If you qualify for bariatric surgery, the procedure will be thoroughly discussed with you, and a surgery date will be scheduled.
If you do not qualify for surgery, we can offer continued support through our alternative program (see movement program).
